Send a Christmas countdown and tear off a paper chain link

Write a Christmas message, pick the colors of a paper chain and share it as one link. The person you send it to pulls the bottom link off the chain and sees how many days are left until Christmas, with your message underneath.

Christmas Day: 25 December 2026

50 days until Christmas

Look how short the chain is getting! Every link we tear off is one day closer to Christmas. I cannot wait to spend it with you.

What is a Christmas countdown wish on Say Wishes?

It is a short message that arrives with a countdown to Christmas. You type who it is for and what you want to say, choose the colors of a paper chain and copy one link. When they open it, they see a paper chain of bright links hanging from a wooden beam, with the bottom link glowing. They pull that link down until it tears off. It falls away, a few scraps of paper drift down and a card appears with the number of days left until Christmas and your message underneath. If pulling is awkward on their screen, a button tears the link off for them. There is nothing to install and no account to make.

How does the countdown work?

The number is worked out on the device of the person who opens the wish, using their own calendar. That means you can send the link at any point and the count will always be right when it is opened. A wish opened on 1 December says 24 days, and the same wish opened on 20 December says 5. On Christmas Day itself the card says it is Christmas Day. After Christmas it counts towards the next one. Christmas Day in 2026 is on Friday, 25 December.

Why send a countdown?

A countdown turns a plain message into a small moment of anticipation. Children love watching the days shrink, and a paper chain is one of the oldest ways to do it: tear off a link each morning and see how few are left. For adults it is a gentle way to say that you are looking forward to seeing them, or that the break is nearly here. It works well for families, partners, friends far away and teams who are counting the days to the end of the year.

What should I write?

Keep it short and warm. A good countdown message does one of three things: it says you are looking forward to a day, it shares a bit of excitement, or it says thank you before the rush. Mention something specific if you can, such as a dinner, a trip home or a tradition you both love. Three or four sentences are enough, and the limit is 280 characters, so every word counts. The count is already on the card, so you do not need to write the number yourself.

Can I send it early?

Yes, and early is when a countdown works best. Send it at the start of December, or even in November, and the person can open it whenever they like. Each time they open it, the number is correct for that day.

Is it free and private?

It is free, with no account and no email address needed. The message is stored only inside the link you copy, and Say Wishes does not keep a copy. Use a first name and keep to things you would be happy for anyone with the link to read.

Other ways to send a Christmas wish

For a night-before message, try Christmas Eve, where the person drags a star up a tree. For children, the Letter from Santa and the kid’s letter to Santa fit well alongside a countdown. For a general greeting, the Christmas snow globe works at any point in December.
