What is a Secret Santa reveal on Say Wishes?
It is a small scratch-off card that tells one person who they drew in your Secret Santa. You type the name they drew and a few details about the gift swap, then copy one link. When they open it, they see a silver foil panel. They scratch it away with a finger or a mouse, and the name and your note appear underneath. There is nothing to install and no account to make.
How do I run a Secret Santa with it?
Say Wishes does not draw the names for you. Draw them any way you like, such as names on paper in a hat or a random list, then make one card for each person.
- Type the name that person drew, the details of the swap and your name.
- Pick a card color and try the foil in the preview.
- Press Create link and send it to that person only, in a private message.
Repeat for everyone in the group. Each link holds one match.
Why should I send each link privately?
The name is stored inside the link, and anyone who has the link can scratch it. If you post links in a group chat, everyone could open everyone else’s match. Send each link directly to its owner by text message, email or a private chat, and ask them to keep it to themselves.
Does it cost anything or need an account?
No. There is no account, no app and no payment. Your message is stored inside the link, not on a server, so we cannot read it and cannot bring it back if you lose the link. Keep a copy of every link until the party is over, in case someone loses theirs.
What should I write in the details?
Keep it short and practical. Give the budget, the date and place of the swap, and any rule such as “wrap it with no name” or “something homemade”. If the group has a theme, add it. For work groups, a friendly line about keeping the budget kind to everyone helps avoid awkward gifts.
When should I send the cards?
Send them two to three weeks before the swap, which leaves time to shop and post gifts. The card does not expire, and the scratch happens when it is opened, not when it is sent, so there is no harm in sending early.
Will it work on their phone?
Yes, in any current browser. The foil answers to a finger on a phone or tablet and to a mouse on a computer. If scratching is awkward, the Reveal my match button uncovers the card at once, and the name is also readable by screen readers.
Is it safe to share?
The link opens a plain card. Whatever you type is shown as plain text only, and every card carries a notice that it was written by the sender, plus a link to report anything that should not be there. Only share links with people you know.
