What is a birthday wish on Say Wishes?

It is a short message that arrives on a birthday cake. You type who it is for and what you want to say, choose a cake, and copy one link. When the person opens it, they see five lit candles. They tap the button, shake their phone, or blow toward their microphone, and the candles go out in a puff of smoke, confetti pops, and your words appear. There is nothing for them to install or sign up for.

How do I send one?

  1. Type their name, your name and your message. The message can be up to 280 characters, about the length of a long text.
  2. Pick a cake and check the preview on this page. Press Replay to watch the candles go out.
  3. Press Create link, then copy it or send it straight to WhatsApp, Messenger, a text message or email.

Does it cost anything or need an account?

No. There is no account, no app and no payment. Your message is stored inside the link itself, not on a server, so we cannot read it and cannot bring it back if you lose the link. If you want to send the same wish again next year, keep a copy of the link.

What should I write for a birthday?

Short and specific beats long and general. Name one thing you like about them, one memory you share, or one thing you hope they do today. A line such as “I still laugh about the camping trip” lands better than “have a great day”. For a colleague, a warm two-line note is plenty. For a child, keep the words simple and read the wish out loud together when it opens. If you are stuck, press Use an example and change a few words to sound like you.

When should I send it?

The wish plays when it is opened, not when it is sent, so you can send it the night before and let it be the first thing they see in the morning. If you are late, send it anyway. A birthday wish that arrives a few days after the date still feels kind, and the candles work any day of the year.

Which cake should I pick?

The three cakes only change the colors. Strawberry is pink with a warm plum background, Blueberry is cool blue, and Lemon is yellow on a fresh green background. All three have the same five candles, the same bunting and the same message card, so choose the one that looks most like the person you are sending it to.

Will it work on their phone?

Yes, in any current browser. If they open the link inside the built-in browser of WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook, shaking the phone may not register. The Blow out the candles button always works. Blowing is optional: the page asks for the microphone only if they press Blow into your microphone, it listens on their device only and never records or sends the sound, and it never uses the camera. No sound plays.

Is it safe to share?

The link opens a plain greeting page. Whatever you type is shown as plain text only, and every wish carries a notice that it was written by the sender, plus a link to report anything that should not be there. Only share links with people you know.
